Hazel Marie Murphy, 74, of Joplin, Mo. entered into eternal rest on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013 at the St. Vincent's Hospital in Little Rock, Ark. She was born on May 11, 1939 in Concord, Calif., the daughter of the late Louis and Helen (Sanders) Hudson.
Hazel, referred to affectionately as "Mimi" by her family, was a long-time resident of Joplin. She was a retired school librarian for the Wheaton and Carthage School Districts and was a member of the Wheaton Baptist Church.
A loving mother and grandmother, nothing made Hazel happier than spending time with her family and her two special dogs. She enjoyed working in the yard planting flowers and gardening as well admiring the beauty of horses. She lived for family gatherings, often hosting everyone at her own house despite the limited space. Hazel was an incredibly kind person, and found great joy in purchasing gifts for family and friends many months in advance.
Hazel is survived by her daughter and two sons, Julie Mullenix and her husband, Kyle, of Irving, Gary Murphy and his wife, Terrill, of Little Rock and Jeff Murphy, of Joplin. Also surviving are her sister, Sandra McNeill and her husband, Preston, her niece, Lisa Carney and her husband, Mike and her three grandchildren, Blake Mullenix, Joshua Mullenix, and Rachel Mullenix.
