Paul Richard "Rick" Eckman, Jr., age 65, of Aurora, Mo., passed away at 3:50 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo. He was born on May 28, 1948, in the Panama Canal Zone, the son of the late Laura Louise (Wunder) and Paul Richard Eckman, Sr. On Aug. 3, 1974, he married Mary Kay Nolan in Aurora.
Rick was a 1966 graduate of Monett High School and was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Aurora. He owned the Sonic Drive-In of Aurora, Oswego, and Nixa; Eckman Auto House; and worked for years in the grocery business in Monett.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 40 years, Mary Kay; three daughters, Mariah (Mark) Rapp, of Aurora, Lindsay Carter, of Anchorage, Ala. and Ashley (Brandon) Bowling, of Republic; two sons, Richard (Lauren) Eckman, of Perryville, Mo. and David Eckman, of the home; four sisters, Kay (John) McCallister and Nan (Jack) DePriest, all of Monett, Regina Gould, of Stotts City, Sue (Dennis) Johnson, of Louisburg, Mo.; one brother, Steve (Tonya) Eckman, of Emporia, Kan.; nine grandchildren, Tiffany Lile, Amanda Smith, Aaron, Maclain and Kaylee Rapp, Preston and Payton Carter, Jaidyn and Ryleigh Eckman; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service open to family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Aurora. Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of the funeral home. The Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home has conducted local arrangements.
