The Verona boys and girls basketball teams took two games from Wheaton on Feb. 5.
The Wildcats (11-12, 2-3) earned a 59-50 victory, and the Lady Wildcats prevailed 35-30.
Verona's boys avenged an overtime loss on Dec. 7, 2012 to the Bulldogs.
Tomas Estrada and Seth Losack combined to score 33 points for the purple and gold.
Wheaton (9-13) led most of the first period and held a 15-13 edge when Verona's Brent Downs sank a 70-foot buzzer-beater shot to lift the Wildcats to a 16-15 lead.
"Downs' shot really was the catalyst for the rest of the game," said Verona coach Brad Stewart. "It fired up our fans, excited our team and we stepped up the defensive intensity."
Verona took charge of the contest in the second quarter outscoring Wheaton 16-4 in the period to lead 32-19 at halftime.
The Wildcats swelled the lead to 47-29 after three quarters.
Wheaton battled back and made a run in the fourth frame outperforming Verona 21-12 but it wasn't enough as Verona won 59-50.

Verona earned a 35-30 victory over an improving Wheaton squad to complete the sweep.
The Lady Wildcats led 6-5 after one quarter and 15-13 at halftime.
Verona extended the lead to 27-22 in the third and held on to win in the fourth.
"Wheaton played us tough and executed well," said Verona coach Ryan Yates. "It took a team effort for us to pull out the win."

Both Verona teams will be in action on Feb, 8 at Exeter. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
