Verona comes up short against Thomas Jefferson

The Verona Wildcats basketball team fell 46-45 to Thomas Jefferson on Feb. 1.

The Wildcats trailed 14-9 at the end of the first period but rallied to lead 25-24 at halftime.

Thomas Jefferson rallied to outscore the Wildcats 13-9 in the third period and held off the purple and gold in the fourth quarter for the1-point win.

Scoring for Thomas Jefferson: Justin Brown, 17 points; John Burnett, 12; Tyler Thurman, 9; Trevor Spriggs, 4; Michael Joseph, 2; and Edward Hershawe and Sanjay Jenkins, 1 each.

Scoring for Verona: Tomas Estrada, 13 points; Ascencion Estrada and Seth Losack, 9 apiece; Brent Downs, 7; Dalton Miller, 4; amd Dre Sitton, 3.

JV

The Wildcats won the JV contest 60-30.

Scoring for Verona: Seth Hilton, 19; Cody Musick and Ryan Butler, 10 each; Jose Charqueno, Sergio Estrada and Dre Sitton, 5 each; Spencer Shue, 4; and Devon Delano, 2.

Verona hosts Wheaton on Feb. 5. Varsity tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
