The Southwest Lady Trojans opened with a 12-0 run and were never threatened in a 61-48 win at Purdy on Feb. 1. Michaela Mitchell poured in 20 points to lead all scorers, as the Lady Trojans remained perfect in Ozark 7 Conference play.
Mattie White led Purdy with 14 points. In a numerical oddity, the Purdy scoring leaders finished in the order of their uniform jerseys, with the highest unit numbers scoring the most points.
The girls played in the third game of a long matinee wrapped around homecoming activities.
Michaela Mitchell scored the first three field goals to give Southwest a quick 6-0 lead. Montana Hendrix and Nicole Ickes drilled three-pointers to double the score at 12-0 and force Purdy to take a strategy timeout.
When play resumed, Katie Hughes finally got Purdy on the scoreboard. But Mitchell scored again and Ickes scored late with an offensive board as Southwest opened a 16-4 lead at the first break.
The Lady Eagles found some offense in the second quarter. Billie House and Courtney White both hit from long range to prevent a runaway, but Southwest led by as many as 15 before leaving the court with a 31-17 halftime lead.
The lead never dipped below 13 in the third quarter. Taylor Mettlach owned the lane for Southwest, scoring twice in 33 seconds to give the Lady Trojans a 42-26 lead. Jaime Shrum's free throws pushed the lead to 18 in the final minute, but Hughes connected with a mid-range jumper to set the score at 44-28 at the final break.
There would be no late collapse for the Lady Trojans, no fervent comeback for the hometown Lady Eagles. Michaela Mitchell and Mettlach helped Southwest open a 57-36 lead to start the fourth.
Courtney White and House answered with back-to-back 3-pointers to make the score more respectable, but Southwest's bench saw plenty of action as Brad Phillips' team coasted to the 61-48 victory.
