Youth wrestlers shine at area tourneys

Monett youth wrestlers continued their season on Jan. 26 and 27 by participating in two different tournaments; the Ray-Pec Panther Classic and Carl Junction Novice Tournaments.

The Ray-Pec Panther Classic is traditionally a heavily attended tournament. This year was no different with over 600 participants.

Nine wrestlers represented Monett at the event. The young Cubs had six wrestlers finish in the top four places of their respective weight classes.

Harrison Merriman, Ian Meyer and Hunter Pyle earned second place honors; Joey Semerad and Wesley Merriman took third, and Matthew Bahl finished fourth.

On Sunday, the novice wrestlers traveled to Carl Junction

Earning gold medals for Monett were: Bishop Morrison, Corbin McCully, Logan Umfleet and Kaden Endicott.

Second place: Maddix Adams, Levi Taylor, Aiden Pina, Mason Ray and Peyton Weathermon

Third place: LJ Witt, Saddie Camp, Oliva Ray and Jordan Withnell.

Camp received special recognition by recording the most takedowns of any wrestler at the CJ tournament.
