A spaghetti dinner will be offered by Hobbs-Anderson American Legion Post #91 from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Legion Home, located at 717 E. Broadway. Cost is $5, $3 for children under 12, and carry-outs will be available. Proceeds help Legion youth programs.
The Central Crossing Fire Department and First Responders will hold their annual Chili Fest from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Viola Community Building, on Highway 39 one mile south of the Shell Knob bridge.
A "sweetheart dance" is planned for 7 to 10 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, at the Monett Senior Center, 405 Dairy St. The Fun Timers Band will provide music. Participants are encouraged to bring potluck or finger food. Admission is $3.
A Super Sunday Party with the Eagles Aerie #3948 at 18896 Farm Road 2185, north of Aurora, will begin at noon on Sunday, Feb. 3. The $7 admission and all you can eat treats will benefit the Childrens' Advocacy Center.
The Purdy FFA Alumni will hold its annual fish fry and labor auction at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 in the Purdy school cafeteria. The menu includes catfish, potatoes, hush puppies, cole slaw and beverage. Cost is $6 a plate. The labor auction will be at 7 p.m.
A luncheon will be offered on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at VFW Post #4207, hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary. The menu will include chili, cornbread, Fritos, loaded baked potato bar, salads, dessert and beverage. Cost will be $6.
More than 30 regional authors and 10 speakers from Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas will participate in the first Authors Book Signing Day at the Kimberling Area Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2. Live music at the McDowell Jubilee will return on Saturday, Feb. 2. The open mike session starts at 6:30 p.m. Performers of all kinds are welcome. The Jubilee hall is located six miles south of Highway Z in Pleasant Ridge, off Highway VV, then follow the signs.
Members of the Monett Rural Fire Association are encouraged to put the new white sticker for 2013 membership on their membership signs. The sticker should cover the blue stickers for 2012.
Dues for 2013 for the Pierce City Sportsmen's Club should be submitted now. Dues can be paid at First State Bank in Pierce City or Ken's Barbershop at 207 E. Broadway in Monett. Anyone using the club's shooting range must have a paid membership for liability and vandalism coverage.
The 11th annual George Washington Carver Scholarship for $500 for the 2013-14 academic year, which will be awarded to a local graduating high school senior, or local home school student receiving a GED Certificate.
