The Harlem Ambassadors basketball team will play a benefit for the Monett Chamber of Commerce on Sunday, Sept. 22, at Monett High School. Tip-off will be at 3 p.m.
A professional team in the style of the Harlem Globetrotters, the Ambassadors will provide high flying fun and an elevated demonstration of basketball skills. Advance tickets for the game will be sold.
The chamber is seeking players willing to take on the Ambassadors. A Monett Area All-Stars team of no more than 15 players will face the Ambassadors on the Cubs' hardwood.
"Talent is not required to play," said Jeff Meredith, chamber executive director. "I already have five who have expressed interest."
A participant must be at least 19 years old, willing to sign a waiver and pay a $100 fee. Current college players may not be eligible as amateurs to play against professionals.
The contest will last as long as a regulation basketball game, though the rules are likely to be stretched in the process.
The chamber is also seeking sponsors at $250 each. The sponsor's logo will appear on the team shirt and receive five complimentary tickets.
Meredith and Jeff Bell will provide a meal for the visitors.
For an advance look at the team, the Ambassadors will perform in a fundraiser at 7 p.m. on Feb. 16 at Cassville High School.
"I'm looking forward to this. I think it will be fun," Meredith added.
