Friends of the late Shelby Linahan are hosting a fundraiser to establish the Shelby Deines Linahan Scholarship Fund. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who plans to enter the teaching field and carries a minimum grade point average of 3.5.

Linahan, a former fourth grade teacher at Monett Elementary School, died Sept. 3, 2012, after a long bout with liver, bone and brain cancer.

The fundraiser, a paddle party, will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 in the community room of the VFW, located on Highway 60 in Monett.

Vendors will offer a variety of items, including purses, jewelry, make up, accessories, Tupperware, candles, alterations, designer jeans, apparel, and more.

A drawing for prizes and a silent auction will also be held during the event.

Event organizers are accepting orders for specially designed commemorative long or short-sleeve T-shirts, $10 and $15 respectively; sweatshirts, $20; and hoodies, $25. Sizes available include youth small to adult 3X.

To order commemorative apparel contact Jamie Dacy at jldacy_01@hotmail.com or jjnick1969@sbcglobal.net.

Donations may also be made to the Shelby Deines Linahan Scholarship Fund at US Bank.

Event organizers include Amanda Elliott, Cheyenne Riddle, Jamie Dacy, Jennifer Nickell, Kristi O'Hara and Steve and Sandra Deines.

Snacks and beverages will be provided.
