The Monett City Council will hold a work session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23 to discuss the preliminary budget for fiscal year 2013-14. The meeting will be held in the City Hall conference room.

The Pierce City Senior Center will host a dance with the Fun Timers Band at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24. Admission is $3. Finger foods are welcome.
A reception for Tony Simmons, the new superintendent for the Verona R-7 School District, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, in the school cafeteria. Refreshments will be served. Simmons begins in the 2013-14 school year.
Renewal notices for members of the Pierce City Rural Fire Department have been mailed. Checks should be mailed by Jan. 31 to PCRFD, PO Box 134, Pierce City Mo. 65723. Cancellation notices will be sent on Feb. 10.
Ebenezer Baptist Church will host an Old-Fashioned Day service on Sunday, Jan. 27, beginning with worship at 10 a.m. A dinner will be served following services. At 1 p.m., special singing will be offered by three different groups. The church is located two miles north of Monett on Chapell Drive (Farm Road 1090).
Community gospel singing will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Merl's Chapel Church, four miles north of Cassville on Highway Y. Singers, players and listeners are welcome.
The 642nd Lawrence County Gospel Sing will be held on Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Nazarene Church, located at 503 Necessity in Marionville. Singers and musicians are welcome.

Eagle watching day at the Veterans' Memorial Park in Stella, hosted by the staff of Wildcat Glade Conservation and Audubon Center, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26.
