Cattle rustlers strike again

Thursday, January 24, 2013

Cattle rustlers have struck another Lawrence County farmer during the overnight hours of Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Eight calves were taken from the Scott Welch Farm in Lawrence County.

According to a press release from Lawrence County Sheriff Brad DeLay, thieves cut fences and gates through four fields to gain access to the cattle.

Taken were: one gray heifer with a large cyst on her underside; two black-banded bulls; two white heifers; and three black heifers. Each animal weighed between 500 and 750 pounds. All are Angus-Charolais mixed breed.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office is again asking the public for assistance in locating the rustlers and encourages area citizens to report all suspicious activity, day or night, in close proximity of cattle production areas. To report suspicious activity, call 417-466-2131.
