The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold blood drives from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Cox Monett Hospital, 801 N. Lincoln,

An "E-Reader Class" will be held at the Monett Branch Library, 213 Sixth St., at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31. This is an opportunity for those with E-Reader devices to learn helpful tips on using them. For more information, call the library at 417-235-6646.

The documentary film "The Civil War in Newtonia," made by the Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma, has won an Addy Award from the Newton County Tourism Committee. Regional Addy Awards are presented by the advertising industry.

The Pierce City Senior Center will host a dance with the Fun Timers Band at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24. Admission is $3. Finger foods are welcome.

Whether it's bringing some cheer to a lonely patient, delivering flowers from loved ones or assisting friends and family to patient rooms, volunteers at Cox Monett Hospital have a great and lasting impact on our patients. Positions are currently open at the information desk and gift shop, and on-the-job training is provided. Volunteers must be a least 15 years old. A reception for Tony Simmons, the new superintendent for the Verona R-7 School District, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, in the school cafeteria. Refreshments will be served. Simmons begins in the 2013-14 school year.

Renewal notices for members of the Pierce City Rural Fire Department have been mailed. Checks should be mailed by Jan. 31 to PCRFD, PO Box 134, Pierce City Mo. 65723. Cancellation notices will be sent on Feb. 10.

The Monett-Purdy Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications for house #7. Interested persons may pick up applications from the Monett Chamber of Commerce, located at 200 E. The Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Aurora is offering a chili support at 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28. A drawing will be held at the dinner with a three-night stay at the Thousand Hills Golf Resort in Branson for first prize, $500 cash for second prize and two season tickets to Silver Dollar City for third prize. The church's men's organization is offering more than $200 in discounts from 30 area businesses is available for $20.
