Monett Relay for Life plans changes for 2013

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

As the New Year's ball went down in New York City, people all around the United States was saying "Good-bye!" to 2012 and "Hello!" to 2013. There were resolutions made with the hope of success and changes that were planned with the intention to make this year a better one. The most popular and number one most common "Need to Lose Weight" resolution and the "Must Quit Smoking/Drinking" coming in at a close second. Some people are successful, while others make it their next year's resolution (some for the umpteenth time in a row). There's a simpler resolution, however, that can empower you, change other people's lives, help others and guarantee a path of success for you in 2013. Become a lifesaver that will help end cancer and those affected by it. Become a leader for those that are in need. Become a team, a team that can make all things impossible, possible.

The City of Monett needs your help to end the fight against cancer. With you and your teammates help, a change can be made! The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Monett is in need of teams to help raise money and awareness this "Relay" season and we warmly welcome our former teams back! Not sure about becoming a team? Worried about the commitment behind it? It's much less complicated than you may think. If you can click a mouse, dial a phone or even write a letter, you can raise money and inform people about this wonderful cause that helps millions of people, even those right in our own city!

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's national signature fundraising activity that unites families, friends, businesses, hospitals, schools and churches... people from all walks of life. Teams are encouraged to sign up early. The more time your team has, the more time you have to raise money! The possibilities are endless for fundraising. Bake sales, raffles, paddle parties, selling of luminarias, silent auctions, and selling handmade items to name a few. For more information, please visit our city's RFL website at www.relayforlife.org/monettmo. There you can start a team, sign up with a current team and/or register as a cancer survivor or caregiver.

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. We save lives by helping people stay well and preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight.
