Maxine McClanahan, age 99, a resident of Monett, Mo., passed from this life to her eternal home on Monday evening, Jan. 21, 2013 at Cox-Monett Hospital following a short illness. Maxine was born on Oct. 2, 1913 in Monett, daughter of the late Mack McClanahan and Bertha (Thomas) McClanahan.
Maxine graduated from Monett High School and then furthered her education at the Monett Junior College. She then started her career as a secretary for the Lawrence County Division of Welfare. Maxine retired in 1975 after 42 years of faithful service. All but a short time residing in Cassville, Mo., Maxine lived in the home that her father had built in Monett her entire life. She was an avid reader, always desiring to further her education and strengthen her mind.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Vernon McClanahan; one sister, Virginia Niemeyer; and one niece, Linda Niemeyer.
She is survived by her cousins, Carolyn Stacy, of Cassville, Mo., Pat Thomas, and wife, Maxine, of New Castle, Ind., Cathy Deecroft, and husband, J.T., of Aurora, Colo., Jolee Mason, of Lenexa, Kan. and General Ralph Hallenback, and wife, Corabelle, of Nashua, N.H.; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services for Miss McClanahan will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel in Monett. Interment will be held in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monett. Memorial contributions can be made to Camp Barnabas in care of the funeral home.
