Pierce City splits varsity tilts with Seneca

Pierce City High School's basketball teams left Seneca with a mixed bag of results, on Jan. 22,

Pierce City's girls earned a 58-35 victory, while the boys fell 64-47 to the Indians.

In the girls contest, the Lady Eagles outscored Seneca 18-3 in the first period and led 32-13 at halftime.

The green and white won the third and fourth periods by the identical score of 13-11.

Scoring for Seneca: Elena Wood and Bailey Skelton, 8 points each; Williow Rhodes and Mirana Heath, 6 apiece; Annie Howard, Courtney Cook and Rachael Butterfield, 2 each; and Mollie Cooper, 1.

Scoring for Pierce City: Krishna Merriman, 24 points; Bailee Hayward, 13; Christine Younker, 10; Amber Wagner, 5; Emily Ashley, 4; and Shania Hogan, 2.

The Indians outscored the Eagles 18-8 in the third period to open an 18-point lead and secure a 64-47 victory.

Seneca led 15-13 after one quarter of play and 34-26 at halftime.

Scoring for Seneca: Seth Harris, 17 points; Logan St. Clair, 14; Chance Smith, 10; Kyler Ng, 8; Bradley Jumper, 7; Elias Roelfsema, 6; and Shane Murphy, 2.

Scoring for Pierce City: Cody Fitchpatrick, 16 points; Zach Hyde, 12; Kole Kelley, 7; Cedric O'Hara, 6; and Michael Merriman and Colton Drollinger, 2 each.
