Marionville's experience too much for Monett's youth

The Monett Lady Cubs basketball team ran into a well-oiled Marionville Lady Comet Squad and fell 68-17 on Jan. 14 in the Marionville Tournament.

The Lady Comets, fresh off a third place finish in the Class 2 championship last year needed only 100 seconds to build a 12-0 lead.

Sophomore Josie Young scored 8 of her game-high 30 points during the initial run.

After a time out, the young Lady Cubs played even with Marionville splitting evenly the games next 14 points.

Marionville held a 25-8 lead at the end of the first period.

The Lady Comets dominated the next 12:11 of playing time outscoring the Lady Cubs 34-0 before Jessica Harper banked in a 10-foot jumper to make the score 59-10.

The blue and white held a 51-8 lead at the intermission and 63-12 at the end of the third period.

Scoring for Monett: Haylee Morris, 5 points; Brooke McLean, 4; and Cheryl Barnes, Harper and Kelsey Wiseman, 2 apiece.

Monett continues action in the Marionville Tournament on Jan. 18 against Reeds Spring. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
