The third-seeded Lady Eagles used a 14-4 run in the first quarter to pull away from the sixth-seeded Lady Wildcats and led 19-6 at the first break.
"We played hard the entire game," said Pierce City coach Rob Guerin. "We were able to get Krishna (Merriman) established in the post early and the opened up things offensively."
Verona battled hard in the first half. The Lady Wildcats were awarded 12 free throw attempts but connected on four of them.
"We got beat by a very good team. Coach Guerin has a very solid club," said Verona coach Ryan Yates. "Plainly put, they were bigger at every position. I though we attacked the basket well tonight. We just couldn't get our shots to fall.
For the game the Lady Wildcats were 7 of 23 (30 percent) from the charity stripe.
The green and white outscored Verona 12-9 in the second period and 14-4 in the third frame to build a 45-19 cushion.
Scoring for Verona: Taylor Pinkly, 8 points; Shelby Barsotti, 7; Hannah Hilton and Christiana Werner, 2 each; and Tori Pinkly and Leann Hesemann, 1 apiece.
Scoring for Pierce City: Merriman, 26; Christine Younker, 7; Bailee Hayward, 5; Shania Hogan, 4; and Haleigh Stephenson, Faith Strong, Amber Wagner, Becca Hatfield and Emilee Sooter, 2 each.
Pierce City advanced to play Pleasant Hope in the semifinals.
Verona plays in the consolation semifinals on today against Billings. Both games are slated for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff at Marionville High School.
