Overnight shooting leads to one arrest

Wednesday, January 16, 2013 ~ Updated 12:33 PM

Officers with the Monett Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Seventh and Benton Streets at 1:08 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a man who reported someone had shot the front door of his home. The man was not injured.

Officers recovered two shotgun shells at the scene. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old man at his residence on Elm Street. The suspect's name has not been released pending the filing of formal charges.

Officers seized several guns as evidence following a search of the home. The victim and another witness identified the suspect as the person who shot the house.

"The motive in this case appears to be a domestic dispute between a husband and his wife," said Monett Police Chief Tim Schweder.

Charges of assault and armed criminal action were submitted to Barry County Prosecuting Attorney Johnnie Cox on Wednesday. Charges were expected to be filed at that time.
