Five hurt in crashes

Two Pierce City men were involved in a two-vehicle crash on Jan. 12 six miles east of Diamond. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Darren Clayton, 36, was driving east in a 2011 Dodge 3500 pickup at 4:30 p.m. on Highway J, six miles east of Diamond, when he attempted to pass a 1990 Chevrolet 1500 pickup, driven by Trenton Bowers, 20. Bowers failed to observe the passing Clayton truck and crossed the center line, striking the pickup. Clayton, who was not wearing a safety belt, received minor injuries and was taken to Cox Monett Hospital for treatment. Bowers, who was wearing a safety belt, was not hurt.

Other crashes

* A Nevada woman was hurt in a crash on Highway 37, one mile east of Pierce City, at 7 p.m. on Jan. 12. Kristie Modlin, 46, was driving west in a 1999 Chevrolet Astro van when she lost control on a slush covered road. Her van crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2010 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by Linda Jeffers, 62, of Golden. Modlin received moderate injuries and was taken to Cox Monett Hospital in Monett for treatment. Jeffers was not injured. Both drivers were wearing safety belts.

* An Exeter woman received minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 2:06 a.m. on Jan. 12, three miles east of Wheaton. Maria McNeill, 22, was driving west on Highway W in a 2012 Kia Sportage while being pursued by police. The vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned. McNeill, who was wearing a safety belt, was taken to Cox Monett Hospital for treatment.

* A Nixa man was hurt in a two-vehicle collision in Aurora at 3:13 p.m. on Jan. 12. Josheph Gallant, 26, was driving north on Highway 39 in a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria police car and was waiting at a red light at Highway 60. A 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, driven by Brent Martin, 44, of Cassville, was behind the Gallant vehicle. As traffic began to move, the Martin pickup struck Gallant's car in the rear. Gallant received moderate injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Aurora for treatment. Martin was not injured. Both drivers were wearing safety belts.

* An Aurora woman was injured in a single-vehicle crash that occurred at 5:44 a.m. on Jan. 9 on Highway 60, about one mile east of Granby. Anna M. Cochrane, 30, of Aurora, who was driving a 2007 Mazda, swerved to avoid an animal in the road, traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned. Cochrane was transported by ambulance to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin with minor injuries.
