Work got underway last week disassembling the pieces to the Festival of Lights displays at Monett's South Park.

There are 95 assembled units in the Festival of Lights, representing several hundred pieces that will be packed away for another Christmas season.

Greg Carlin, with the Monett Electric Department, said the displays are easier to take down than assemble, and figured the work would take seven or eight days, if favorable weather continued.

According to Jeff Meredith, executive director for the Monett Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the light show, volunteers handed out 26,000 candy canes to visitors, which represents around 30,000 tourists who viewed this year's show.
