The Monett Senior Citizens Center will hold its first dance of the year from 7 to 10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7 at 405 Dairy St. The Fun Timers Band will play. Attendees are asked to bring a potluck dish or finger food.

A brainstorming session will be held on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Historic Courthouse in Mt. Vernon to discuss cattle thefts in Lawrence County. Sheriff Brad DeLay, Prosecutor Don Trotter, stockyard owners, University Extension and the County Commission will be in attendance.

The Purdy Branch of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library has books and DVDs on display in January to help patrons slim down, spend less and free their house from clutter. Located on Fourth Street and Highway C, the library is open 9:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, call 417-442-7314.

Lauren Saunders, with Champion Athletes of the Ozarks, will be the speaker at the noon meeting of the Monett Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Happy House restaurant.

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 405 Seventh St. on Monett; from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, at Yoder Farms, located at 17243 Highway P in rural Verona; and from 3 to 6 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the VFW Hall, on North Highway 39, in Shell Knob.

The Marionville Branch of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library is offered an afternoon of family skills on Saturday, Jan. 12, with presentations by the Marionville High School family and consumer science and childhood development classes. Kids can get free pictures and haircuts, if haircut appointments are made in advance with Ruby's NU Image by calling 417-463-2644 and mentioning Kidz Kraze.

The Lawrence County Health Department will hold food service training workshops in accordance with the revised county food ordinance from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11. Sessions are held at 105 W. North St. in Mt. Vernon. To enroll, call 417-466-2201.

A spaghetti dinner will be offered by Hobbs-Anderson American Legion Post #91 from 5 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 17 at 717 E. Broadway. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Carry-outs are available. Proceeds support Legion youth programs.

Southwest Missouri Solid Waste Management District N will hold its regular executive board meeting at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Alice Irene's restaurant in Marionville.

Renewal notices for members of the Pierce City Rural Fire Department have been mailed. Checks should be mailed by Jan. 31 to PCRFD, PO Box 134, Pierce City Mo. 65723. Cancellation notices will be sent on Feb. 10.

The Monett/Purdy Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity will meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at the First Christian Church, Fourth and Wishart, in Monett. The public is invited to attend.

The "Vision of Hope" Narcotics Anonymous group has moved to the Monett Community Church on E. Cleveland across from the Ramey Supermarket. Open meetings are at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with step study at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays.
