The Lawrence County Health Department will hold food service training workshops in accordance with the revised county food ordinance from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11. Sessions are held at 105 W. North St. in Mt. Vernon. To enroll, call 417-466-2201.

A spaghetti dinner will be offered by Hobbs-Anderson American Legion Post #91 from 5 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 17 at 717 E. Broadway. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Carry-outs are available. Proceeds support Legion youth programs.

The Monett-Purdy Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications for house #7. Interested persons may pick up applications from the Monett Chamber of Commerce, located at 200 E. Broadway, from Ron Stair at the First Christian Church, located at 603 Fourth St. in Monett. For more information, call Vicky McGuire at 235-3333.

Eagle watching day at the Veterans' Memorial Park in Stella, hosted by the staff of Wildcat Glads Conservation and Audubon Center, will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The Lawrence County Soils and Crops Conference will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 3 at the Southwest Research Center, southwest of Mt. Vernon. A steak dinner will be served shortly after 6 p.m. and speakers will begin at 7 p.m.

A dance will be held at the Cassville Senior Center, located at 1111 Fair St., at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5. The Roaring River Sound band will play. A $4 donation is requested for admission. Finger foods are welcome.

Southwest Missouri Solid Waste Management District N will hold its regular executive board meeting at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Alice Irene's restaurant in Marionville.

Whether it's bringing some cheer to a lonely patient, delivering flowers from loved ones or assisting friends and family to patient rooms, volunteers at Cox Monett Hospital have a great and lasting impact on our patients. Positions are currently open at the information desk and gift shop, and on-the-job training is provided. Volunteers must be a least 15 years old. Missouri birth or death certificates are available through the Lawrence County Health Department. Applications are available at the department office, located at 105 W. North St. in Mt. Vernon. Birth certificates cost $15 per copy and death certificates are $13 for the first copy and $10 for each additional copy if requested the same day. For more information, call 417-466-7485.

Performances at the McDowell Jubilee will resume on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. The open mike shows start at 6:30 p.m. Performances are at the McDowell community center, six miles east of Highway 60 on Highway ZZ to Pleasant Ridge, and south on Highway VV to McDowell.

The Lawrence County Health Department still has flu vaccine available for adults at a cost of $15. Vaccine is available for children from 6 months old to age 18. There is a $10 charge for non-county residents. Vaccines are offered at the department's office at 105 W. North St. in Mt. Vernon. For more information, call 417-466-2201.
