Paula was born on Nov. 4, 1941 in Mammoth Springs, Ark., daughter of the late Reverend Lincoln Bartelsmeyer and Paula Kathryn (Deuschner) Bartelsmeyer.
Paula graduated from Monett High School and then furthered her education at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo., where she received her bachelor's degree in education. She then continued her education at CMSU and earned her master's degree and specialist's degrees. Paula was a teacher and principal for over 30 years at several schools in Missouri, including Orearville, Malta Bend and retired from Newburg Schools.
Many things throughout Paula's life brought her joy, but none more than spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading and traveling with her parents as a child. She moved to Jefferson City so that she could be closer to her grandkids. Paula loved to watch them playing football, baseball, wrestling, martial arts, etc. She was very involved and a great support to her family.
Paula is survived by two children, her daughter, Lori Howard and her husband, Rob, of Jefferson City; and her son, Lyle Best, of Bronaugh, Mo.; her three grandchildren, Jordan, Corbin and Boston; and one sister, Juanita Mermoud, and her husband, Frank, of Tacoma, Wash.
Funeral services for Mrs. Best will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel in Monett. Reverend John Nipper will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, Mo. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home.
