The Lawrence County Soils and Crops Conference will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 3 at the Southwest Research Center, southwest of Mt. Vernon. A steak dinner will be served shortly after 6 p.m. and speakers will begin at 7 p.m.

A dance will be held at the Cassville Senior Center, located at 1111 Fair St., at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5. The Roaring River Sound band will play. A $4 donation is requested for admission. Finger foods are welcome.

Renewal notices for members of the Pierce City Rural Fire Department have been mailed. Checks should be mailed by Jan. 31 to PCRFD, PO Box 134, Pierce City Mo. 65723. Cancellation notices will be sent on Feb. 10.

Eagle watching is planning for Saturday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Feb. 16 at Roaring River State Park near Cassville.

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold blood drives from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic School in Pierce City; from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the First Christian Church, located at 703 S. Hickory in Mt. Vernon; and from noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 405 Seventh St. on Monett.

The Missouri National Guard 276th Engineer Company Family Readiness Group will meet at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6 at the Pierce City Armory. Anyone who would like to support the Missouri National Guard is welcome.

The local chapter of Vietnam Veterans Chapter #1023 will meet at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6, at Grant's restaurant, located on Chapell Drive by Walmart in Monett. All veterans are invited. For more information, call 471-271-3835.

The Monett-Purdy Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications for house #7. Interested persons may pick up applications from the Monett Chamber of Commerce, located at 200 E. A brainstorming session will be held on January 7 at 7 p.m. in the Historic Courthouse in Mt. Vernon to discuss cattle thefts in Lawrence County. Sheriff Brad DeLay, Prosecutor Don Trotter, stockyard owners, University Extension and the County Commission will be in attendance.

VFW Post #4207 Ladies Auxiliary will host a luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at the Post, located on West Highway 60. The menu will include pulled pork, has brown casserole, black-eyed peas, salad, dessert and drink. Cost is $6.

The 2013 Lawrence County assessment lists will be in the mail the first few days of January. The deadline to have them back in the Assessor's office is March 1.
