Arthritis fundraiser surpasses goal

Wednesday, January 2, 2013

Payton Crumpler, third grade student at Purdy Elementary School, participated in the Arthritis Foundation's annual Jingle Bell Run and Walk fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 1 as part of Team 4:13.

Crumpler was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumotoid Arthritis when she was 2 and a half years old. Fellow team 4:13 member, Jake Tharp, also suffers from the condition.

Crumpler has participated in three Jingle Bell fundraisers. She was joined this year by her teacher, Linda Patton.

Patton and Crumpler led their class in raising $213.52 for the fundraiser. Every student in the class contributed to the cause, which surpassed the original goal of $100.

"I am so very proud of their efforts," said Crumpler. "I refuse to let my condition define who I am or what I can be. I just work with the abilities and dreams I have right now."
