There will be no Dec. 31 issue of The Times. The next issue will be published on Jan. 2, 2013.

A brainstorming session will be held on January 7 at 7 p.m. in the Historic Courthouse in Mt. Vernon to discuss cattle thefts in Lawrence County. Sheriff Brad DeLay, Prosecutor Don Trotter, stockyard owners, University Extension and the County Commission will be in attendance.

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold blood drives from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic School in Pierce City, and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the First Christian Church, located at 703 S. Hickory in Mt. Vernon.

The Platters will appear for a New Year's eve concert at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 at the community building on the Crowder College campus in Cassville. Tickets are available at the Rise and Shine and the Soda Fountain in Cassville and at the Red Barn in Mt. Vernon.

Whether it's bringing some cheer to a lonely patient, delivering flowers from loved ones or assisting friends and family to patient rooms, volunteers at Cox Monett Hospital have a great and lasting impact on our patients. Positions are currently open at the information desk and gift shop, and on-the-job training is provided. Volunteers must be a least 15 years old. Missouri birth or death certificates are available through the Lawrence County Health Department. Applications are available at the department office, located at 105 W. North St. in Mt. Vernon. Birth certificates cost $15 per copy and death certificates are $13 for the first copy and $10 for each additional copy if requested the same day. For more information, call 417-466-7485.

The Lawrence County Health Department still has flu vaccine available for adults at a cost of $15. Vaccine for children from 6 months old to age 18. There is a $10 charge non non-county residents. Vaccines are offered at the department's office at 105 W. North St. in Mt. Vernon. For more information, call 417-466-2201.

Vision of Hope, a Narcotics Anonymous group meeting, meets at 8 p.m. on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2101 E. Cleveland in Monett.

Performances at the McDowell Jubilee will resume on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. The open mike shows start at 6:30 p.m. Performances are at the McDowell community center, six miles east of Highway 60 on Highway ZZ to Pleasant Ridge, and south on Highway VV to McDowell.

The Verona R-7 Board of Education will hold a special meeting in the search for a new superintendent at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 28 in the superintendent's office. Other personnel action is also expected.

The Purdy Recycling Project will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 so that students and volunteers can enjoy the holidays with their families. Regular business hours are changing for the winter months, closing at 6 p.m.

Al-Anon meets at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays in the west wing of the First Baptist Church, a quarter mile north of Pierce City on Highway 97.
