"We won't have to face another team that physical again this season," said Guerin. "I thought our girls did a good job responding and played well in spots. We battled hard all game."
The matchup was originally not scheduled to occur at the Neosho Holiday Tournament. Two Arkansas teams were delayed by severe weather, causing a forfeit and another game being scheduled in their place. The matchup counted in the regular season standings but not in tournament play.
Pierce City got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 8-4 lead. Webb City calmed down and closed out the period with a 12-5 push to lead 16-13 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Cardinals continued the surge into the second frame with a 13-5 nudge to open a 31-18 lead.
Webb City dominated on the boards in the second and third periods, establishing a 17 to 5 advantage. Points in the paint (36-14) also favored the Lady Cardinals.
The green and white struggled to match the depth of Webb City but showed resolve by outscoring their opponent 22-18 in the second half.
Scoring for Pierce City were: Emily Ashley, Christine Younker and Bailee Hayward, 8 each; Becca Hatfield, 7; Krishna Merriman, 4; Shania Hogan, 3; and Mattie Brottlund, 2.
Scoring for Webb City were: Casey Heger, 12 points; Desirea Buerge, 10; Kaitlin Beason and Mikaela Burgess, each; Asia Berno, 6; Lexey Knelb, 4; and Lacy Resa and Megan Heman, 2 apiece.
