Hwy. 39 crash leaves Sarcoxie woman dead, 1 man hurt

A Sarcoxie woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash at 4:40 a.m. on Dec. 22 four miles south of Mt. Vernon.

According to the Missouri state Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, driven north on Highway 39 by Matthew Gann, 32, of Mt. Vernon, crossed the center of the road. The Gann vehicle collided head-on with a 2009 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Brandy Acheson, 38, of Sarcoxie.

Acheson was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Scott Lakin. Gann received serious injuries and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for treatment. Both Acheson and Gann were wearing safety belts.

This was the 92nd fatality in the Highway Patrol's Troop D in 2012.
