The Pleasant Ridge Road District commissioners will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church to open bids. For additional information, call 236-4690.

The Barry-Lawrence Regional Library branches will be closed on Jan. 1, 2013 in observance of New Year's Day.

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold blood drives from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic School in Pierce City, and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the First Christian Church, located at 703 S. Hickory in Mt. Vernon.

Would you like to lose weight but don't know where to start or how to get motivated? Journeys, a 20-week weight management program at Cox Monett Hospital, focuses on mental, physical and emotional health, behavior strategies, stress management, nutrition education and fitness programs. Trained professionals, including a licensed professional counselor, dietitian and certified fitness instructors, teach the program. A new session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013. A public reception in honor of Frank Washburn, who is retiring as northern commissioner of Barry County, will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, at the historic Barry County Courthouse in Cassville, in the commissioners' chambers. Refreshments will be served.

The monthly dance at the Pierce City Senior Citizens Center will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, featuring the Fun Timers Band. Finger foods are welcome. The center is located at 104 Locust St.

The Eagles Lodge #3948, located at 18896 Farm Road 2185 in Lawrence County, north of Aurora, invites the public to come ring in the new year at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31, with a buffet table, live band and dancing. Call 417-678-1000 for seating prices. Proceeds benefit local charities.

The Verona R-7 Board of Education will hold a special meeting in the search for a new superintendent at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 28 in the superintendent's office.

Hobbs-Anderson American Legion Post #91 has rescheduled its meeting for Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 to 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 2.

The Platters will appear for a New Year's eve concert at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 at the community building on the Crowder College campus in Cassville. Tickets are available at the Rise and Shine and the Soda Fountain in Cassville and at the Red Barn in Mt. Vernon.

The Purdy Recycling Project will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 so that students and volunteers can enjoy the holidays with their families. Regular business hours are changing for the winter months, closing at 6 p.m.

Performances at the McDowell Jubilee will resume on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. The open mike shows start at 6:30 p.m. Performances are at the McDowell community center, six miles east of Highway 60 on Highway ZZ to Pleasant Ridge, and south on Highway VV to McDowell.
