The Monett High School speech and debate team competed at the annual Raytown Blast Classic on Dec. 7 and 8.

In the varsity division, the following students advanced to semi-finals: Taylor Renfro, dramatic interpretation; Tanesha Eden, humorous interpretation; Taylor Renfro and Tanesha Eden, duo interpretation; and Andrew Gilliam and Matt Murphy, dui interpretation.
The following varsity members advanced to finals and placed: Andrew Rausch, eighth, Student Congress; Bryce Isbell, sixth, domestic extemporaneous; Katelyn Morrison, sixth, poetry; Zeina Masri, fifth, dramatic interpretation; Zeina Masri and Garrett Maxey, fifth, duo interpretation; Garrett Maxey, third, humorous interpretation; Tom Younker, third, Lincoln-Douglas debate; Jonah Ragsdale, third, Lincoln-Douglas debate; Reece Johnson and Bryce Isbell, third, public forum debate; Jonah Ragsdale, second, Student Congress; and Reece Johnson, first, foreign extemporaneous.
In a field of 30 schools, the squad placed first, taking the Raytown Last Blast championship.
