Phyllis Jean (Volkl) Harkins, age 74, of Monett, Mo., went home to be with her Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at her home with her family by her side.
Phyllis was born on Jan. 28, 1938, in Purdy, Mo., the daughter of the late John Raymond "Jack" Volkl and Gussie (Carlson) Volkl. In January of 1962, Phyllis Volkl and James C. Harkins, Sr. were united in marriage in St. Louis, Mo. She was a retired cashier for Braums and had also worked in a shoe factory. She was a homemaker and worked with in-home care. She was of the Christian faith. Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her brother and sister-in-law, Don and Pat Volkl; and her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was a loving mother, grandma, nana, sister, daughter, aunt and dear relative and friend to many.
Those left to mourn the passing of Phyllis are one daughter, Loretta Faavi, and husband, Tino; five sons, James C. Harkins, Jr., Dennis W. Harkins, John F. Harkins, Bradford B. Harkins, Phillip R. Harkins, and wife, Kari; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Gussie Volkl; her husband, James C. Harkins, Sr.; one son, Randall Harkins; one granddaughter, Jennifer Faavi; one grandson, James Harkins III; and two daughters-in-law, Sandy and Carla Harkins.
Funeral services for Mrs. Harkins will be held at the Buchanan Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Greg Gilliam officiating. Interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery, Monett.
The family will receive friends for a visitation from 1 p.m. until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, Mo.
