The Monett Senior Citizens Center, located at 405 Dairy St., will serve its annual Christmas dinner on Fri. Dec. 21. The Hppy Plunker Ukelele Band, of Springfield, will provide entertainment, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), located at 4th and Wishart in Monett, will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24. For more information call the church at 235-7233.

Whether it's bringing some cheer to a lonely patient, delivering flowers from loved ones or assisting friends and family to patient rooms, volunteers at Cox Monett Hospital have a great and lasting impact on our patients. Positions are currently open at the information desk and gift shop, and on-the-job training is provided. Volunteers must be a least 15 years old. Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold a blood drive from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27 at the Lawrence County Justice Center, located at 240 N. Main in Mt. Vernon, and from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 27 at Lawrence County Manor, 915 Carl Allen Dr. in Mt. Vernon.

Christmas eve services will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Monett, located at 601 E. Benton. Carols and lessons will be presented by the children. The church will also have communion.

Homes along East and West Crestwood Drive in Monett will have more than 300 luminaries on display on Saturday, Dec. 22. Drive-through viewing will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Crestwood Drive is located on Highway 60, one mile west of Highway 37.

A Christmas eve candlelighting service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, at the Waldensian United Presbyterian Church.

The Platters will appear for a New Year's eve concert at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 at the community building on the Crowder College campus in Cassville. Tickets are available at the Rise and Shine and the Soda Fountain in Cassville and at the Red Barn in Mt. Vernon.

The First United Methodist Church in Monett, located at 1600 N. Central, will have a Christmas eve service at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24. The Christmas story will be told in four scenes around a "disgruntled and stressed-out movie director." A traditional candlelight and communion service will be held at 11 p.m. with special music and a Christmas devotion.

The Monett License Office, located at 200 E. Broadway, will be open from 8 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 26 through Dec. 28 and Dec. 31.

A Sandlot Baseball Academy will hold an overnight youth camp for ages 13 through 18 on Dec. 27 and 28, beginning at 10 a.m. Online registration is available at www.sandlotbaseball.net. A clinic for ages 9 to 12 will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 29. Both clinics will be at the Mt. Vernon Arts and Recreation Center. For more information, call 417-737-3548.

Food service training workshops offered by the Lawrence County Health Department will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Dec. 21 and 1 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 28. Classes are held at the health department office in Mt. Vernon. For more information, call 417-466-2201.
