A Marionville woman is dead following a car-train crash in Marionville.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 5:25 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, at O'Dell Street in Marionville when the driver of a 2006 Nissan Sentra, David R. Birch, 38, of Marionville, pulled into the path of a 1998 Burlington Northern General Electric Train, operated by Steven M. Hansen, 57, of Springfield. The Patrol report indicates the crossing arms were activated with flashing red lights at the time of the crash.
A passenger in the Sentra, Katie L. Wiggins, 26, of Marionville, was killed in the crash. Lawrence County Coroner Scott Lakin pronounced the victim dead at the scene at 5:25 p.m. and the body was taken to Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City.
Birch was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries. It is unknown whether Wiggins or Birch were wearing seat belts.
* A Purdy man was killed in a single-vehicle crash that occurred at 7:02 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, on Interstate 44 about two miles west of Halltown. The crash occurred when a 2003 Ford F150, driven by Larry D. Hall, 55, of Purdy, left the roadway and struck a guardrail before the vehicle rolled over the guardrail. Hall was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Coroner Scott Lakin. Hall was not wearing a seat belt.
* A Cassville woman was injured in a single-vehicle crash that took place at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, on Highway 97 at Pioneer. The crash occurred when the driver of a 2008 Dodge 1500 pickup, Mary A. Dieser, 52, of Cassville, slid off the left side of the roadway and overturned. Dieser was taken to Mercy Hospital in Cassville with minor injuries. She was wearing a seat belt.
