Esther Agnes Barber, age 101, of Lee's Summit, Mo., formerly of Freistatt, Mo., passed away on Monday evening, Dec. 17, 2012, while at the John Knox Village Care Center in Lee's Summit.
Esther was born on Oct. 22, 1911 in Freistatt, the daughter of John Nobe and Emilie (Holle) Nobe. She had attended school in Freistatt and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a devoted mother and wife. Esther and her husband, Robert, had moved to Lee's Summit in August of 1994 to be near their daughter and had attended the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
Esther married Robert Barber on Aug. 31, 1938 in Mt. Vernon, Mo. To this union, two daughters were born. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2000. Also preceding her in death were her parents, John and Emilie Nobe; one brother, Erhardt Nobe and two brothers at a very young age; and one sister, Amanda Aufdembrink.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Mueller, and husband, Rev. Howard, of Davenport, Iowa and Patricia Younker, and husband, Ronald, of Lee's Summit; two sisters, twin sister, Meta Knaust, of Centerville, Mo. and Flora Obermann, of Freistatt; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six nieces and nephews; as well as a host of friends that will dearly miss her.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barber will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt with Reverend Ryan Buchmueller officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Friday. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions are being directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, Mo.
