Two people hurt in Thursday crashes

An Aurora man was hurt in a single-vehicle crash at 3:05 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13 at Leeann in Barry County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Gary Atkinson, 46, was driving north on Highway 39 in a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer when he lost control on a curve, over-corrected and ran off the left side of the road. His vehicle overturned.

Atkinson, who was wearing a safety belt, received serious injuries and was taken to Cox Hospital-South in Springfield for treatment.

Other crashes

* A Springfield teen received minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash involving a Marionville driver at 5:25 p.m. on Dec. 13. Michael Irelan, 67, of Marionville, was driving north on Highway 413, a tenth of a mile west of Springfield, when he attempted to make a left turn in his 1998 Toyota Camry. Irelan turned into the path of a 1989 Honda CRX, driven by Morgan Stapp, 17, of Springfield. Taylor Rhodes, 15, of Springfield, a passenger in the Irelan vehicle, received minor injuries and was taken to Cox Hospital South in Springfield for treatment. Rhodes and Stapp, who escaped injury, were not wearing safety belts. Irelan, who was wearing a safety belt, also was not injured..
