PC earns conference wins over McAuley

The Pierce City Eagles and Lady Eagles basketball teams earned needed victories over McAuley on Dec. 13 and 14.

The Eagles earned a 60-47 win, and the Lady Eagles prevailed 60-12.

"It was a great team effort," said Pierce City coach Matt Street. "We did a good job of running our offense. We remained patient and got the shot we wanted."

The Eagles (3-4) and Warriors (2-7) played to an 11-11 tie after one quarter of play.

The green and gold tweaked their defense in the second period to take a 30-18 edge into halftime.

Pierce City increased the lead in the third frame by outscoring McAuley 19-15.

Scoring for McAuley: Shaw Robertson, 23 points; Connor Schlegle, 10; Adam Robertson and Zach Crossland, 4 each; and Trey Melton and Tanner Riscoe, 2 apiece.

Scoring for Pierce City: Kole Kelley, 18 points; Zack Hyde, 15; Cedric O'Hara, 10; Colton Drollinger and Cody Fitchpatrick, 7 each; and Michael Merriman, 3.

Pierce City girls

On Dec. 13, the Lady Eagles rolled to a 60-12 decision over the Lady Warriors.

"We played better defense and moved the ball well," said Pierce City coach Rob Guerin. "With the return of one of our players, it makes our bench a little deeper and the girls are playing well together."

Pierce City led 15-5 at the first break and 36-6 at halftime.

Scoring for McAuley: Kambry Wagner, 8 points; and Kate Miesler and Victoria Foley, 2 each.

Scoring for Pierce City: Bailee Hayward, 17 points; Krishna Merriman, 16; Emily Ashley, 10; Christine Younker, 8; Shania Hogan, 4; Kelsey Morris Mattie Brottlund, 2 apiece; and Emilee Sooter, 1.

The Lady Eagles will be in action on Dec. 26 in the Neosho Holiday Tournament.

The Eagles host Stockton on Dec. 20. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
