The annual Christmas vespers service in Pierce City will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16 at the Congregational Church, Washington and Walnut. A community choir will perform under the direction of John Archer.

Would you like to lose weight but don't know where to start or how to get motivated? Journeys, a 20-week weight management program at Cox Monett Hospital, focuses on mental, physical and emotional health, behavior strategies, stress management, nutrition education and fitness programs. Trained professionals, including a licensed professional counselor, dietitian and certified fitness instructors, teach the program. A new session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013. Photos with Santa will be available during the open house at the Monett Rural Fire Association's new fire station, located at 920 E. County Rd. east of the standpipes in the Monett Industrial Park. The open house will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 15, and from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19. Pets are welcome. Photos will cost $5 each.

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, at Monett Community Church, located at 2101 E. Cleveland. A $25 Visa gift card will be awarded in a drawing from all participating donors.

Crowder College in Monett will be closed for Christmas break Dec. 21 to Jan. 1, 2013. Spring classes begin Jan. 14, 2013. Appointments for testing, advisement, or enrolling may be made by calling 417-236-2895 or emailing monett@crowder.edu.

A Christmas musical, "Get to the Manger," will be presented by Monett Community Church at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 and at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16. The public is invited to come early on Saturday evening for a cookie social beginning at 6 p.m. The church is located at 2101 East Cleveland in Monett.

The Pleasant Ridge Special Road District commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17 at the Pleasant Ridge school house, located on Highway Z. For more information, call 236-4690.

The Danny Ledbetter family will perform at 6 p.m. on Dec. 14, 15 and 16 at the Longview Church, on Highway 37 at Highway HH, south of Purdy.

The Pierce City Central Elementary School Christmas program will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, in the Pierce City High School gymnasium.

A living nativity will be presented on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 and 15, at Countryside Christian Church, located at 1200 N. Eisenhower, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The drive-through event will feature three additional Biblical scenes on the church lawn.

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold blood drives from 9:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17 at Mercy Hospital in Cassville; on Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Lowe's in Monett; from noon to 6 p.m. on Dec. 18 at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center, 600 N. Main in Mt. Vernon; and from 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, at Ozarks Community Hospital, 108 S. Hickory in Mt. Vernon.

The Purdy Recycling Project will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 25 and Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 so that students and volunteers can enjoy the holidays with their families. Regular business hours are changing for the winter months, closing at 6 p.m.

A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24 at historic First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Aurora, located at 39 W. Pleasant St. and Washington Ave., near the square. The church's candlelit sanctuary will remain open for quiet prayer and meditation from 7:30 until 9 p.m.

A coupon book offering more than $200 in discounts from 30 area businesses is available for $20 from the Holy Trinity Catholic Men's Organization in Aurora. Proceeds will be divided between the church and charitable organizations in Monett, Aurora and Mt. Vernon. Books can be ordered from the HTCC Men's Organization, PO Box 533, Aurora MO 65605.
