Operation Christmas Child

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

A total of 550 shoeboxes of donations for children have been received in the annual Operation Christmas Child at Blessings Books and Gifts in Monett. Steve and Kathi Skaggs are shown with the boxes packed up for delivery in Springfield. The gifts will continue to Colorado for final additions before going to children in more than 100 countries by Christmas. The shoeboxes contain toys, personal hygiene products and some clothing. This year Samaritan's Purse, a ministry headed by Franklin Graham, will ship its 100 millionth shoebox. The total collected in Monett was near a record, up from a little more than 400 a year ago. Individuals, families, churches, Monett Mothers of Pre-Schoolers (MOPS) and other community groups collected and donated the boxes. First Baptist Church in Monett had the largest donation with 189 boxes. [Times Photo by Murray Bishoff]
