She grew up on a farm with her sisters, Doris and Jo, and brothers, Harvey and Wayne. Betty was united in marriage in 1955 to Albert Gast, and raised five children in her loving home, Sue, Sandy, Sharon, Scot and Samantha.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett, Mo. Betty had an adventurous spirit, was a kind and loyal friend, and a patient, loving wife and mother. She made her family and home her career, and excelled in every aspect. She enjoyed going for walks, gardening, and spending time with family, often traveling from the east coast to the west coast to visit her children and grandchildren. Betty's family and their homes are strengthened by their faith, memories, and love for her.
Betty is survived by her sister, Doris Jones, Valley View, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Clayton Zumbrunn, Bonner Springs, Kan.; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Ruth Dissmeyer, Linwood, Kan.; and sister-in-law, Viola Dissmeyer, Kansas City, Kan. She is also survived by her children, Sue Barnes, Monett, Mo., Sandy Kegley, Couer d'Alene, Idaho, Sharon Prouty, Oregon City, Ore., Scot Gast, LaGrange, Ky., and Samantha Gillmore, Clackamas, Ore.; 12 grandchildren, Sara, Shelli, Devin, Jeremy, Reya, Dustin, Cheryl, Gabe, Ashley, Audrey, Zachary and Riley; and three great-grandchildren, Jaycee, Ashton and Isayah.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at 12 noon at the Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Basehor, Kan.
Memorial donations may be made in Betty's name to the people who provided such wonderful care for her at Hospice Compassus, 845 Hwy 60, Suite A, Monett, Mo., 65708.
