Children's author Karla Lowe-Phelps will be at Denali Dreams, located at 316 E. Broadway in Monett, prior to and after the Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 8. She is the author of "Yama the Llama----Off to Bethlehem" and "Yama the Llama----Off to Jerusalem."
A Christmas cantata, "God Speaking," will be presented during the 10:15 a.m. service on Sunday, Dec. 9, at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 700 Sycamore in Monett. The musical, directed by Janis Neher, will feature the combined choirs of the Waldensian and First Presbyterian churches.
The Purdy High School Choir will perform its annual Christmas Concert on Monday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. Admission to the concert is free.
The Freistatt Community Development Association will host the annual Freistatt community holiday dinner at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Community Center. Ham and turkey will be furnished. All Freistatt community members are invited to attend and are asked to bring a side dish or desserts. Five drawings will be held. Two turkeys and hams will be given away and one month of free water and sewer service.
A pancake breakfast to benefit the Boy Scouts of America will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the First United Methodist Church, located at 1600 N. Central in Monett.
A Christmas program, "Christmas Around the World," will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9 by the students at St. Lawrence Catholic School in the parish hall.
A Project Graduation basketball tournament for Pierce City High School will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8. Boys and girls teams from third through sixth grades will play in the Pierce City Central Elementary and high school gyms. Cost is $75 per team guaranteeing three games will be played. The Harold Bell Wright Pierce City Museum will host Christmas at the Museum from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. This will be the last day of the season for the museum, which will close for the winter. The museum is located at 404 N. Walnut in Pierce City. The Pierce City Christmas Parade will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The 2012 Wheaton Christmas parade will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, beginning at the Body of Christ Outreach Ministries on Highway 86. The Wheaton Historical Society and Wheaton Depot Museum will hold their annual open house from 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Santa will be arriving early for the parade and at 3:30 p.m. will be available for free photos with children, complements of the Masonic Comfort Lodge #533 of Wheaton.
Countryside Christian Church, located at 1200 N. Eisenhower in Monett, will present a Living Nativity on Dec. 14 and 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
