Area residents are invited to participate this week in a special non-event gala, sponsored by the Monett-Purdy affiliate of the Habitat for Humanity. Invitations have been mailed to individuals and businesses in Barry and Lawrence counties.
"This is a perfect event for those who are weary of holiday party-going," said Rev. Ron Stair, Habitat president. "To take part in this non-event, you don't have to get dressed up. You don't have to hire a babysitter. You don't even have to leave home.
"When you receive your invitation, just sit down in the comfort of your home or office and write out a check to support the building of the next Habitat house," Stair continued.
Checks can be sent to Habitat, PO Box 123, Monett, MO 65708.
Co-sponsored by International Dehydrated Foods, UMB Bank, Cox Monett Hospital and EFCO, a Pella company, the Habitat Non-Event Gala is a fun way to encourage support for the next Habitat build, according the Bill VanEaton, Habitat publicity chairman.
"All money raised will help to fund the next Habitat project, which will make affordable housing available to a needy family," VanEaton said.
"As we look forward to a busy holiday season, we encourage everyone to take a minute to send a check to the Monett-Purdy Habitat for Humanity," Van Eaton continued. "Instead of going out for the night, stay home and spend an evening with your family. Don't put on a fancy dress or a tuxedo. Don't rent a limousine. Your contribution is tax deductible and you will be giving a hand up to families who are willing to work to improve their living conditions."
