Pictured above is the famed Tower Bridge in London, England. The bridge is one of a host of historic attractions area students can visit as a part of the Eupropean Mosaic Tour.
Students from Monett, Pierce City, Purdy, Verona and other area high schools are invited to embark on a 15-day tour of Europe this summer. Students will earn a high school history credit in the process.

Students in ninth through 12th grades are eligible to participate in the tour. The trip will be conducted through Education First Tours, a well-known travel organization with 45 years of experience in educational tours.

Purdy High School teachers Adam Wilhite and David Mareth will sponsor the trip, which is not affiliated with the Purdy R-2 School District. Wilhite and Mareth are seasoned European travelers. The tour will be Wilhite's third trip abroad and Mareth's second.

The 15-day tour will begin with a flight out of Springfield on June 3, 2013. Stops will include London, England; Paris, France; Munich and Berlin, Germany; Salzburg and Vienna, Austria; and Prague, Czech Republic. The students will visit sites such as Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower, the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, the Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral, Trafalgar Square and Dachau.

"I can think of no better way to teach history than to stand with students in the places where important moments from history took place," said Wilhite. "I could attempt to explain to students significant historical events from as many perspectives as possible, but there is no substitute for standing in a castle or cathedral and letting them form their own mental images of what it must have been like many years ago," added Wilhite.

The total cost per student is $4,000: includes round-trip airfare and transportation by motor coach and Eurostar high-speed train; 13 overnight stays in hotels with private bathrooms; daily European breakfasts and dinners; 14 sightseeing tours; entrance to all attractions; and comprehensive travel insurance. Items not covered in the cost include daily lunch, passport fee, optional tours, tips for guides and souvenirs. Adults who are related to students who are participating in the tour are invited to sign up. The cost for adults is $4,500.

A $95 enrollment is requested up front, and the amount will be credited toward the total tour fee and is nonrefundable.

Participants have a variety of total tour payment options. The options will be explained when students sign up for the trip.
