Hobbs-Anderson American Legion Post #91 reminds the public that flags will be flown at half-staff on Friday, Dec. 7 at National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

A pancake breakfast to benefit the Boy Scouts of America will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the First United Methodist Church, located at 1600 N. Central in Monett.

Barry County retired school personnel will meet at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7 at Happy House restaurant, located on Highway 60 in Monett. Non-perishable food items brought to the meeting will be donated to Crosslines.

A Christmas program, "Christmas Around the World," will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9 by the students at St. Lawrence Catholic School.

A Project Graduation basketball tournament for Pierce City High School will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8. Boys and girls teams from third through sixth grades will play in the Pierce City Central Elementary and high school gyms. Cost is $75 per team guaranteeing three games will be played. Missouri birth or death certificates are available through the Lawrence County Health Department. Applications are available at the department office, located at 105 W. North St. in Mt. Vernon. Birth certificates cost $15 per copy and death certificates are $13 for the first copy and $10 for each additional copy if requested the same day. For more information, call 417-466-7485.

The Missouri State University Alumni Association is hosting a gathering on Dec. 6 for all Barry and Lawrence county alumni and friends. The dinner event is from 6-8 p.m. at Grant's restaurant in Monett. MSU President Clif Smart is the featured speaker and Art Hains, radio voice of the Bears, is the emcee. The cost for the buffet dinner is $5 per person. Reservations can be made by calling (417) 836-5654

The Lawrence County Health Department still has flu vaccine available for adults at a cost of $15. Vaccine for children from 6 months old to age 18. There is a $10 charge non non-county residents. Vaccines are offered at the department's office at 105 W. North St. in Mt. Vernon. For more information, call 417-466-2201.

The Harold Bell Wright Pierce City Museum will host Christmas at the Museum from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. This will be the last day of the season for the museum, which will close for the winter. The museum is located at 404 N. Walnut in Pierce City.

A limited supply of the Newtonia Civil War battlefield Christmas ornament is available for $10. The decoration shows a photo of the historic Ritchey mansion and family cemetery. The cost is $10 plus $5 for shipping. Orders can be placed by writing Newtonia Battlefields Protection Association, 400 W. Susan Pl., Neosho Mo. 64850.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department is accepting the donation of old cell phones that can be used by victims without phones to call 911. Vision of Hope Narcotics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2101 E. Cleveland in Monett.
