Purdy sweep College Heights on the hardwood

The Purdy Eagles and Lady Eagles swept a pair of games from College Heights on Dec. 4.

The Lady Eagles earned a 56-20 victory behind a 15-point performance from senior Mattie White.

Purdy (4-2) led 18-5 at the end of one quarter of play and 36-10 at halftime.

"I think we are still trying to find our stride," said Purdy coach Eli Ernst. "We are beginning to see some players step up and play at a higher level."

The Lady Eagles outscored College Heights 14-7 in the third period to take a 50-17 lead into the fourth quarter.

Scoring for College Heights: Kirsty Green, 8 points; Brianna Shores, 7; Afton Clevenger, 4; and Neveda Moenning, 1.

Scoring for Purdy: Mattie White, 15 points; Desirie Ennes, 13; Courtney White and Katie Hughes, 7 apiece; Abby Parsons, 6; Jayse Henderson, 4; and Kat Hughes and Ashton Young, 2 points each.

In the nightcap, of the doubleheader, Purdy earned a 69-40 victory over the Cougars.

"We missed some easy shots in the first half," said Purdy coach Tommy Egan. "We picked up the effort in the second half. Our pressure led to some easy baskets that seemed to get us going."

The Eagles (3-1) led 15-12 at the end of the first period and 27-23 at halftime.

After a close first half, the second belonged to Purdy.

The Eagles outpaced the Cougars 22-8 in the third period and 20-9 in the fourth quarter.

"We have still yet to put together a complete game," said Egan. "We have played well for a half in all four games. I would like to see us put together four solid quarters."

Scoring for College Heights: Ryan Beaver, 13; Josh Hamilton, 12; Josh Woodmansee, 6; Caleb Stratton, Joe Sherwood, Luke Cummins and Tyler Melton, 2 points each; and Logan Worthington, 1.

Scoring for Purdy: Cameron Terry, 20; Tyler Scott, 14; Keevin Walker, 9; Brent Cornman, 8; Alex Mareth, 7, Glen Scott, 5; Austin Hancock, 4; and Robby Moody, 2.

The Lady Eagles travel to the School of the Ozarks, and the Eagles travel to East Newton on Dec. 7. Tipoff for both contests is set for 6 p.m.
