Hobbs-Anderson American Legion Post #91 reminds the public that flags will be flown at half-staff on Friday, Dec. 7 at National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Cox Monett Hospital administrator Genny Maroc will be the speaker at the Tuesday meeting of the Monett Kiwanis Club, which will be held at noon on Dec. 4 at Happy House restaurant.

A luncheon hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary for VFW Post #4207 will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Post, located west of Monett on Highway 60. The menu will include meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salads, dessert and drink for $6.

An end-of-the-year dance hosted by the Monett Senior Citizens Center will be held on Monday, Dec. 3 for 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is $3. Music will be played by the Fun Timers Band. The center is located at 405 Dairy St. Potluck dishes and finger food is welcome.

Monett Elementary School is accepting donations for the nurse's closet of supplies for children. Presently needed are shoes for boys and girls, sizes 12/13 or youth size 4/5; girls sweats, sizes 5-10; and coats, sizes 5-10.

Food service training workshops offered by the Lawrence County Health Department will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Dec. 7 and 1 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 14. Classes are held at the health department office in Mt. Vernon. For more information, call 417-466-2201.

Toys for Tots in Lawrence County is accepted donations of new unwrapped toys through Dec. 14 at businesses in Aurora, Marionville, Miller and Mt. Vernon. For drop-off information, call Tom Hanson at 417-440-1319.

All former Jumping-Jacks employees and spouses are invited to meet at The Bayou, in Monett, at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 4 for an evening of memories and companionship.

Highway Z, east of Monett, between Farm Roads 1120 and 1130, will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 4, for the installation of drain pipe under the road. All traffic will be diverted.

The new historic Pierce City Christmas ornament from the Dacy Foundation, showing the Lawrence County Bank, is available for $6 at City Hall in Pierce City and at First State Bank.

Purdy High School will present the musical show, "Back to the '80s," at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 and 2 p.m. on Sunday Dec. 9, in the elementary gym.

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, at Aurora High School, located at 305 W. Prospect, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Scott Regional Technology Center in Monett.

The 2012 Wheaton Christmas parade will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, beginning at the Body of Christ Outreach Ministries on Highway 86. Free pictures with Santa and candy will be available at 3:30 p.m. Entry forms are available by calling Wheaton City Hall at 417-652-3314.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department is accepting the donation of old cell phones that can be used by victims without phones to call 911. Donors may keep their Sim cards and delete all personal information before turning in phones. For more information, contact Kim Bishop-Jones at 417-466-2131.
