A luncheon hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary for VFW Post #4207 will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Post, located west of Monett on Highway 60. The menu will include meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, salads, dessert and drink for $6.

An end-of-the-year dance hosted by the Monett Senior Citizens Center will be held on Monday, Dec. 3 for 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is $3. Music will be played by the Fun Timers Band. The center is located at 405 Dairy St. Potluck dishes and finger food is welcome.

Local Vietnam Veterans Chapter #1023 will meet at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, at Grant's restaurant on Chapell Drive in Monett. For more information, call 471-271-3835.

The 11th annual Dickens Christmas Faire will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, in downtown Neosho. Breakfast with Santa at the Civic Auditorium starts at 8 a.m. Horse-drawn carriage rides start at 9 a.m. A Victorian Christmas ornament workshop will be held at the Newton County Historical park at 1 a.m. The Christmas parade is at 5 p.m. The Jack Mitchell Band will play a jazz concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

A beading class for teens will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Mt. Vernon Library Branch, 206 W. Water St. For more information, call 417-466-2921.

The Pierce City Christmas Parade has been moved to Saturday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. Santa will meet with children at the caboose during the day.

The Springfield Social Security office has reduced its hours to 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. After Jan. 2, 2013, the office will close over the noon hour every Wednesday.

A Christmas party for all military retirees in the Monett area will be held by the 117th Engineer Asphalt Team at noon on Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Monett National Guard Armory. Those attending are asked to call 235-3140 so that adequate preparations can be made.

All former Jumping-Jacks employees and spouses are invited to meet at The Bayou, in Monett, at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 4 for an evening of memories and companionship.

Santa Claus will greet children from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Eagles Aerie #3948, located at 18896 Lawrence 2185, north of Aurora. Cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children age 10 and under. Cameras are welcome. Proceeds from games will benefit local charities.

Highway Z, east of Monett, between Farm Roads 1120 and 1130, will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 4, for the installation of drain pipe under the road. All traffic will be diverted.

The Barry-Lawrence Regional Library branches will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25 in observance of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and on Jan. 1, 2013 in observance of New Year's Day.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department is accepting the donation of old cell phones that can be used by victims without phones to call 911. Donors may keep their Sim cards and delete all personal information before turning in phones. For more information, contact Kim Bishop-Jones at 417-466-2131.

Vision of Hope Narcotics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. on Sundays, Tuesdays and thursdays at 2101 E. Cleveland in Monett.
