Stella man leads police on high-speed chase

Thursday, November 29, 2012

A Stella man has been charged with two felonies and three misdemeanors following a high-speed chase through Macon, Randolph and Boone counties.

Joshua J. Hood, 23, was reportedly driving a stolen pickup from the Cassville area when he drove off from La Plata Short Stop convenience store without paying for $140 of diesel fuel.

A Macon County sheriff's deputy spotted the truck on the north edge of Macon and pursued the vehicle.

Hood failed to yield to the deputy, and at that point, Missouri State Highway troopers joined the chase.

The truck came to a stop after running over a spike strip placed in the roadway by patrol officers. Both Hood and a passenger in the vehicle, Ashley Barnes, 22, of Kirksville, had to be physically removed from the vehicle and arrested.

Hood is facing two felonies of tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest and three misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle in a careless or imprudent manner, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and stealing motor fuel. He remains in custody in lieu of $18,000 bond in Macon County. He is currently being held without bond for the Missouri Department of Probation and Parole.

Barnes is charged with tampering with a motor vehicle and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. She is free after posting bond.
