Thursday, November 29, 2012

The Pierce City Lady Eagles basketball team fell 43-39 to Strafford to open play in the Ash Grove Lady Pirate Classic.

The two teams battled to a 14-14 tie after one quarter and the Lady Indians took a 26-24 lead into halftime.

Pierce City (0-1) outscored Strafford (1-1) 11-7 in the third period, but the Lady Indians won the fourth quarter 10-4.

Pierce City scoring: Emily Ashley, 20 points, Krishna Merriman, 11; Christine Younker, 4; and Mattie Brottlund and Shania Hogan, 2 points each.

Strafford leading scorers were: Emily Oberback, 12 points; Amanda Rowder, 11; Kaylee Larimer, 9; and Grace Bernskoetter, 4.

Pierce City will play Lamar at Ash Grove on Nov. 30 in the consolation semifinal. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
