MHS speech team competes at Crowder

The Monett High School speech and debate team competed at the Crowder tournament on Nov. 16 and Nov. 17.

The following students advanced to semifinals: Gabe Counts, poetry; Sydney Barta and Meghan Gaines, duet acting; Biridiana Salas, prose; Jonah Ragsdale and Hunter Williams, oratory; and Jarrett Johnson, domestic extemporaneous speaking.

The following student advanced to finals and placed: Garrett Maxey and Zeina Masri, second; Wesley Kilgore and Matt Bowsher, third; Tania Contreras and Sam Martinez, fourth; Brianna Salas and Biridiana Salas, fifth; and Kiersten Harper and Hayley Henry, sixth, all in duet acting; Zeina Masri, first; Kaylee Barnes, second; and Taylor Renfro, fifth, all in poetry; Kendra DePriest, first; and Taylor Renfro, second, in dramatic interpretation; Garrett Maxey, first, humorous interpretation; Reece Johnson, first, foreign extemporaneous speaking; Tom Younker, third, domestic extemporaneous speaking; Tania Contreras, third, oratory; Alex Schmitt, third and Jonah Ragsdale, fourth, Lincoln-Douglas debate; and Reece Johnson and Bryce Isbell, second, public forum debate.

Monett placed third out of 11 schools.
