A Christmas party for all military retirees in the Monett area will be held by the 117th Engineer Asphalt Team at noon on Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Monett National Guard Armory. Those attending are asked to call 235-3140 so that adequate preparations can be made.

The Mt. Vernon Regional Arts Council has been named the Missouri Arts Organization of the Year by the Missouri Arts Council as part of its 30th annual art awards.

Local Vietnam Veterans Chapter #1023 will meet at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, at Grant's restaurant on Chapell Drive in Monett. For more information, call 471-271-3835.

A beading class for teens will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Mt. Vernon Library Branch, 206 W. Water St. For more information, call 417-466-2921.

Monett High School will have a parent support meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at in the MHS commons area to discuss upcoming student events. Parents and guardians of MHS students are invited to attend.

The annual old-fashioned Christmas open house at Jolly Mill will be held Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Refreshments will be provided. Children are welcome to bring an ornament for Santa's tree. Cameras are welcome for the free event, beginning at 6:30 p.m. both days.

The Lawrence County Health Department still has flu vaccine available for adults at a cost of $15. Vaccine for children from 6 months old to age 18. There is a $10 charge non non-county residents. Judges are needed for a wide range of events in the 58th annual Priscilla Bradford Speech Tournament at Monett High School on Friday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 1. For more information, call 772-4275.

The Pierce City Christmas Parade has been moved to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, due to a scheduling conflict.

Seniors who would like to sharpen their driving skills are invited to take the AARP diver safety course held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27 in conference room A1 (ground floor) at Cox Monett Hospital. The fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. The fee is waived during November for any veteran or family member of a veteran. Registration is required and can be made by calling 417-354-1COX.

Food service training workshops will be held by the Lawrence County Health Department from 1 to 3 p.m. on Nov. 30 at the Health Department office, located at 105 W. North St. Cost is $10 per person. For more information, call 417-466-2201 to enroll.

The Barry County Council on Aging will meet at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the Cassville Senior Center.
